Russia asks Google not to advertise protests, calling them “illegal” events

The communications watchdog in Russia – Roscomnadzor, announced that it had asked Google to stop advertising “illegal mass events” on its YouTube platform.

The request comes after thousands of Russians went on the streets on Saturday, in what the observers called the biggest political protest for eight years. The protesters defied a crackdown while demanding free elections.

Roscomnadzor said if Google would not respond to this request, Russia would consider it an interference in its sovereign affairs and a hostile influence.

According to media channels, Russian police arrested dozens of protesters. The rally was the fourth consecutive weekend demonstration in Moscow over the local election.
